If you had stashed $10,000 in the Sequoia fund when Bill Ruane launched it in 1970, your stake would now be worth $1.3 million. That’s about $800,000 more than if you had merely tracked the S&P 500. Ruane, now 75, stepped down as manager of Sequoia in 1998. But he still analyzes stocks for the fund, calhng himself a “junior partner” to Robert Goldfarb, his successor as Sequoia’s manager.
